Attending the Edgar Fellows Reception and Advocating for Forest Park

On May 7th, I had the unique honor of attending the Edgar Fellows reception in Springfield alongside Mayor Rory Hoskins and Commissioner Jessica Voogd. I’ve had the opportunity to attend in the past, but this evening stood out as particularly meaningful.

Governor Edgar, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, shared heartfelt reflections shaped by his personal experience. He spoke about the Trump administration’s first 100 days, pointing out the absence of what he called the three C’s: compromise, civility, and compassion. Without these, he said, government cannot truly fulfill its promise to the American people. His words were a powerful reminder of the values we must carry forward in public service.

Earlier in the day, I joined Mayor Hoskins, Chief Lindsey Hankus, and Commissioner Voogd for a series of meetings with Senator Kimberly Lightford and Speaker Emanuel Welch. We discussed the Forest Park Blue Line and how it impacts our first responders.

Making sure the Forest Park Fire Department is prepared and supported remains one of my top priorities. We’re here in Springfield to advocate for the resources and attention they need to continue keeping our community safe.

It was a full and rewarding day that reinforced the importance of listening, working together, and speaking up for the people who serve our village every day.
